Innovative Partnering Event in Berlin

25 Years of Innovation Show – 1 Day of the Future to Touch: on 7 June 2018, the Innovation Day for SMEs took place for the 25th time in Berlin-Pankow. In sunny atmosphere, more than 300 exhibitors and over 1800 guests met at the open air ground of the AiF Projekt GmbH for a creative exchange. Over 200 world novelties from the think tanks of innovative SMEs and researchers could be admired on that day.

The annual technology open air is hosted by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) focusing on innovative products, processes and services whose development has received financial support from the ministry.

International Meeting Point

Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Peter Altmaier, visiting the International Area at the Innovation Day

In the context of the Innovation Day for SMEs, the funding networks CORNET and IraSME organised their latest Partnering Event in the “International Area”– the central meeting point at the fair to make new international contacts with future project partners.

Carmen Heidecke, Head of the Central Innovation Programme (ZIM) Department of the BMWi, opened the International Area with a speech, emphasising that CORNET and IraSME are very important for the BMWi as they help SMEs to match with another as well as with researchers.

The Partnering Event enabled brainstorming of ideas and initiation of cross-border innovation projects. In three workshop tents, participants had the possibility to take part in scheduled face-to-face meetings to discuss possible future cooperations and to listen to presentations about international funding mechanisms and partner countries. Additionally, guided tours for embassy guests and international partners were on the agenda. Right beside the workshop tents, exhibitors who recently performed international CORNET projects presented their unique and innovative projects and were happy to share their experience with visitors.

The German Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Peter Altmaier, also visited the International Area honouring the creative and innovative cooperation activities resulting in bi- or multilateral success projects.

CORNET Success Stories

The CORNET success projects presented this year at the international exhibition ground thematically ranged from the turbo-machinery and tool industry to the textile sector.

Dr. Anna Große from the STFI informs interested guests about the CORNET project ProGeo2.

Among others, the German-Polish CORNET project ProGeo2 was exhibited focusing on the development of an innovative mobile production technique for geotextile systems as erosion protection using sustainable raw materials and textile waste. Project manager Dr. Anna Große from the Saxon Textile Research Institute (STFI) has drawn a very positive conclusion from the day as the booth was very well attended and interesting conversations were held: “The Innovation Day for SMEs and especially the ”International Area“ gave us a great opportunity to present selected international projects of our industry-oriented research institute to a broad public. The relaxed atmosphere of the ”technic open-air“ made it possible to easily get into touch with scientists, entrepreneurs, politicians and the interested public.
