Successful Partnering Event in Aachen
On 31 January more than 120 participants from various countries and research fields joined our Partnering Event at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University in order to find project partners for the current Call for Proposals with deadline on 29 March 2017. CORNET organised this event as well as previous events together with its partner network IraSME in cooperation with ZENIT and the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN).
As always, we have endeavoured to provide a diverse programme to inform participants about their funding possibilities and to help them getting in touch with potential partners for the purpose of realising international R&D projects for the benefit of SMEs.
“The format is very unique”
At 9.30 h the WZL opened its halls for numerous guests who had signed in for the event and had the chance to schedule private face-to-face meetings with potential project partners in advance.
The day began with presentations about CORNET, IraSME and the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), followed by the presentation of a CORNET Success Story which was held by Dipl. Ing. Dora Maischner from Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (ILT) and gave the audience an inside view into a running project.
Afterwards, the Elevator Pitch Sessions started – the centrepiece of the Partnering Events. In three Elevator Pitch Sessions more than 20 researchers from a broad variety of areas presented in five minutes either project ideas or their organisational know-how. The face-to-face meetings which also were very well-attended took place at the same time in separate rooms.
“It’s my first time participating in a Partnering Event organised by the networks CORNET and IraSME. The mixture of presentations, short project pitches, face-to-face meetings and get-together is very unique”, says Dora Maischner from Fraunhofer ILT about the format. “Having the opportunity to get to know potential project partners from all over the world in such a nice, casual atmosphere is great and something, I’d like to do more often in the future. And I am going to spread the word in our institute.”
Melanie Klein from Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) is also enthusiastic about the format: “Attending the well-organised Partnering Event for the first time, it offered an opportunity to take up contact with interesting companies and research institutes. Especially after presenting my project idea during the Elevator Pitch Session, I got into conversation about potential partnerships and exchanging ideas.”
