Swiss Funding Agency is joining CORNET

The CORNET network has grown: The Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) recently joined CORNET and will be facilitating pre-competitive collaborative research projects between SMEs, SME organisations and research institutions on an international level.

Two German-Swiss pilot projects initiated dealing with energy efficiency

CORNET´s new Swiss partner organisation, the SFOE, is the country’s competence centre in matters of energy supply and energy use at the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC). The cooperation with the SFOE came into being because two German-Swiss pilot projects have been initiated dealing with the improvement of energy efficiency. Both projects were submitted during the last CORNET Call for Proposals.

The first research project aims to increase the efficiency of diesel engines, the second project deals with the heat transfer in Otto engines. The Research Association for Combustion Engines (FVV) e.V., member organisation of the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) e.V. – the respective CORNET funding agency in Germany –, participates in both pilot projects and takes the lead as coordinating research association. The research projects will be jointly carried out by several research institutions from Germany and Switzerland.

As new CORNET member, the SFOE will be open for project suggestions from all CORNET partner countries. CORNET issues two calls per year. The current 24th CORNET Call for Proposals closes on 27 September 2017, 12 p.m. (CET). The funding of the international Collective Research projects happens on a national level.

Please find more information e.g. about the composition of international project consortia in the section Calls for Proposals, in the section Project path or in the CORNET broschure.

The SFOE – complementing the CORNET network with valuable knowhow

The economy of Switzerland ranks among the world’s most stable economies. Trade and industry are key factors of Switzerland’s economic subsistence. But most notably, it is the high number and high innovative potential of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that makes the Swiss economy so vital and flourishing.

Nevertheless, SMEs have great difficulties to stay competitive on the market. The SFOE responds to that problem by participating in CORNET and providing a national funding programme following the rule of pre-competitive Collective Research.

In Switzerland, an important branch is the energy sector in which the country’s SMEs and research organisations are distinguishing themselves by great knowhow and therefore complementing the CORNET network with valuable knowledge and experience.
